CN2 GIA VPS Explained: DMIT vs BandwagonHost vs AlphaVPS for Access from China
What CN2 GIA, CN2 GT, CMI and CMIN2 mean, and how DMIT and BandwagonHost compare on China-optimized plans, prices, refunds and terms, plus when a Europe-focused host like AlphaVPS is the better fit.
If your team works from mainland China, you've probably seen this: a perfectly decent overseas VPS that feels fine in the morning, then crawls in the evening with packet loss and dropped SSH sessions. The server usually isn't the problem. The route is: which carrier network your traffic takes between China and the data center.
This guide explains the route names you'll see on China-optimized plans, then compares three hosts we list: DMIT, BandwagonHost and AlphaVPS. Prices and terms come from each host's official site and were checked on 2026-10-05; confirm before you buy.
The route names, decoded
China Telecom 163 backbone (AS4134). China Telecom's standard backbone, carrying most of its users' international traffic. Budget overseas VPSes typically route through it, and it's prone to congestion at peak hours.
CN2 (AS4809). China Telecom's "Next Generation Carrier Network," positioned as a premium network that generally runs at lower load than 163.
CN2 GIA vs CN2 GT. In industry usage, CN2 GIA (Global Internet Access) means traffic stays on CN2 in both directions, while CN2 GT uses CN2 for only part of the path and still crosses 163 inside China. GIA costs more and is usually the steadier option at peak times.
CMI (AS58453). China Mobile International's network, common in Hong Kong data centers and generally a good match for China Mobile users.
CMIN2 (usually AS58807). China Mobile International's premium network, positioned similarly to CN2 GIA.
China Unicom Premium. China Unicom's high-quality international network.
The takeaway: the same data center can feel completely different from China depending on which upstream it's connected to. Read the route on the plan, not just the city.

DMIT: the most granular route options
DMIT splits its network into three tiers:
- Premium: CN2 GIA
- Eyeball: CMIN2 in Los Angeles; CMI plus other Chinese carriers in Hong Kong
- Tier 1: standard international transit, no China optimization
| Plan | Price | Specs |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 · TINY | $6.90/mo | 1 vCore / 1GB / 20GB / 2TB, no China optimization |
| LAX CN2 GIA · TINY | $10.90/mo | 1 vCore / 2GB / 20GB / 1TB |
| Tokyo CN2 GIA · TINY | $21.90/mo | Not listed |
| Hong Kong CN2 GIA · TINY | $39.90/mo | 1 vCore / 1GB / 20GB / 500GB |
Fine print: DMIT's site says prices are for reference, and it doesn't refund for network quality or IP geolocation issues. Its terms prohibit public proxy services and VPN tunnels into mainland China but have no explicit scraping ban (read the current terms before ordering), so it suits teams that need stable access from China and want to run some automation on the same box.
BandwagonHost: established and wide coverage, but no scraping
BandwagonHost, run by IT7 Networks, is the best-known China-route brand among Chinese users. It offers CN2 GIA in Los Angeles, Osaka, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore, and its LA eCommerce line (CN2 GIA-E) adds China Unicom Premium and China Mobile CMIN2.
| Plan | Price | Specs |
|---|---|---|
| 20G KVM promo | $49.99/yr | 2 vCPU / 1GB / 20GB / 1TB |
| LA CN2 GIA-E 20G | $169.99/yr ($49.99 quarterly) | 1GB / 1TB / 2.5Gbps |
| Osaka CN2 GIA 40G | $49.99/mo | Not listed |
| Hong Kong CN2 GIA 40G | $89.99/mo | 2GB / 500GB |
⚠️ BandwagonHost's terms explicitly ban data mining and crawling, as well as open proxies and Tor. Use it for remote access, admin panels and hosting, not for scraping. Payment is by card or PayPal, and there are no dedicated servers.
AlphaVPS: no China routes, built for Europe and the US
AlphaVPS is here as a contrast. It has no Asian locations and no China-optimized routes, so direct access from mainland China won't compare with the other two.
Where it wins is price: the C2G cloud VPS (2 vCPU / 2GB / 30GB NVMe / 3TB) is €2.99/month, or €2.54/month billed yearly; C4G is €3.99/month; storage VPS starts at €1.67/month billed yearly. It fits workloads where the server mostly talks to European or US targets, such as scraping and automation aimed at Western sites. Its terms allow proxies and VPNs for your own use but ban public proxy, VPN or Tor services, artificial traffic and port scanning.
Two caveats:
- Refunds exclude orders from China, promotional plans and crypto payments.
- There's no hourly billing.
How to choose
| Your situation | Pick |
|---|---|
| Team in China needs reliable access to overseas servers or dashboards | A CN2 GIA plan from DMIT or BandwagonHost |
| Tight budget, US West Coast is fine | DMIT LAX CN2 GIA ($10.90/mo) |
| Need lower-latency Asian locations | DMIT or BandwagonHost in Hong Kong or Tokyo (noticeably pricier) |
| Will run scrapers on the server | Not BandwagonHost; DMIT's terms don't ban it |
| Mostly hitting EU/US targets, occasional logins from China | AlphaVPS |
A common setup: a small CN2 GIA box as the access point from China, with the actual scraping jobs on a cheap European or US VPS. For a broader look at hosting terms, see Best VPS for Web Scraping and Automation, or filter the VPS comparison table.
Before you buy
- Test during peak hours. Use the refund window to try the route in the evening, when congestion actually shows up.
- Check the route, not just the city. Tier 1 and CN2 GIA in the same city are different products.
- Stay within the rules. Follow the host's terms and the laws where you operate. If you scrape, respect target sites' terms and keep request rates reasonable.
